Hey everyone,
Happy new year!
NEWSTEAD LIVE! Our first gigs for the new year will be at the Newstead Live Music festival, Jan 22 - 25th.
It's a small world class festival held in the charming, rustic village of Newstead, which is 15 minutes west of Castlemaine.
You are guaranteed intimate listening venues with excellent sound. Headliners include the German comedy cabaret band The Beez and blues singer/songwriter Kristina Olsen.
We're singing at 7.45pm Sat night at the Community Centre and Sunday in the New Wave concert in the Lilliput Cappuccino Lounge.
Check out the festival at www.newstead.com.au/live
PORT FAIRY FOLK FESTIVAL March 5 - 8 -details soon.
BRUNSWICK MUSIC FESTIVAL March 20th supporting the wonderful Scottish singer Eddi Reader. There are some great acts booked for the Brunswick Music Festival - check it out at www.brunswickmusicfestival.com.au
VIC ROCKS ARTS GRANT & VITAMIN DISTRIBUTION
We were thrilled to receive a Vic Rocks grant in the last round to record and promote our second album 'Two in a Book'.We have almost completed recording at Fatsounds with Barry Stockley.
We have signed a distribution deal with Vitamin Records so are looking forward to really getting the new album out there! It's being released in early March with the launch at the Port Fairy Folk Festival
SONGWRITING SUCCESS!
Alicia is a finalist in the Australian Songwriting Awards with her gorgeous song 'The Book'. She is also a finalist in the Darebin Music Feast Songwriting Competition with her bittersweet song 'The Sharehouse' - she sings in the first semi final on Sept 9th. Good luck Alicia!
Burrinja Ranges Folk Club - what a brilliant place to play! Beautiful space, excellent sound, very responsive, appreciative audience and a full house - a pleasure to play at such a vibrant club.
The Folk For Fire Relief gig was AMAZING!! The show sold out in pre sales the day before after we were interviewed and played 'live to air' on The Derek Guille Show. There was a lovely vibe in the room and everyone played beautifully.
As well as the door takings, NSC donated all bar and food takings to the Red Cross so combined with the raffle ( prize was a CD of each of the bands) and donation tins, we raised close to 19 grand!! The show exceeded all our expectations. Such a memorable night and thanks to everyone who came.
We recently played at the Melbourne Folk Club. We loved the receptive audience, the space and the excellent sound.
Here's a review of our performance from Mel Robertson from the club.
Last Saturday was an outstanding success for the club with a full house for the Alanna and Alicia Egan Band and Tom Bolton.
Review
Alanna and Alicia Egan Band
I had only listened to their “myspace” after being told about the band
by a friend, and I could see they were good but had never heard them
live. (That shows you I don’t get out much)
On the strength of this I booked them.
Was I in for a pleasant surprise! The songs were well crafted by
Alanna and Alicia and when you hear them live, the quality shines
through.
Their performance was wonderful and the ease with which
they sang their songs told me there was a special bond between the girls.
Amy Bennett was great with the three-part harmonies and also
fiddle and piano, and Liam O’Connell played very nice guitar.
They were cheeky, adventurous, funny and commanding.
They are a joy and a must see for anyone who thinks, listens, laughs and sings.
