Hey everyone,

We're just back from a holiday in the Kimberley ~ our first time there. What an amazing place! Red dirt, blue skies, camping under the stars, beautiful weather... until the last couple of days when we had torrential rain ~ not quite our Kimberley dream then! Found some great live music places in Broome.

This month we're looking forward to going back to our home town of Bendigo to launch our new album so if you live up that way, we'd love to see you.

The beautiful album 'festival folk sing Joni Mitchell' is now available. We can mail you a copy if you send $28 to Maudee Egan, 63 Russell St, Bendigo 3550 ~ that covers postage & packaging as well. Artists featured include Kavisha Mazzella, Kristina Olsen, Chris While, Julie Matthews, Ruth Bourke, Kate Fagan, Ange Takats, Akasa, The Spooky Men's Chorale, Liz Frencham and more.....and us of course. The album was reviewed in last month's Trad and Now magazine by John Tilbrook ~ 'a diverse group of highly talented musicians pay worthy tribute to the divine Joni ......a brave, exhilarating and successful tribute......performers have sought to interpret rather than imitate her.'

NEW REVIEW of 'TWO in a BOOK'

Sunday Herald Sun May 30th, 2010 Review by Anna Rodway Folk/Jazz ****

Alanna & Alicia’s playfully witty ‘Two in a Book’ is the second outing for the Melbourne twins. They spin heartfelt lyrics with toe tapping tunes such as ‘When You Come Back’ with a truthful earnestness. There is an honest and unaffected beauty about their folk – jazz style and sweet, harmonious vocals. ‘Big White Dressses’ speaks of ‘Rathdowne St cafes’ and St Vincent’s Hospital, adding to the album a relatable and quaint charm. ‘Little Bitter Song’ is an amusing glimpse into the frenzied world of songwriting and “All I Want’ is a different take on Joni Mitchell’s tune. Each ditty is masterfully composed, with Amy Bennett’s haunting violin making an aesthetically pleasing album. File Between : The Waifs, The Indigo Girls

The first review of our new album 'Two in a Book' has just come out in this month's Rhythm magazine.
We're happy!

RHYTHMS MAGAZINE May, 2010

ALANNA & ALICIA ‘Two in a Book’

Alanna & Alicia Egan are singing twin siblings from Melbourne who twist folk, ragtime, blues, jazz and other roots styles into their own deliciously idiosyncratic and saucy songs. Two in a Book offers some wry and frank – if sometimes verbose – observations on love and life, from a twenties to thirties demograpghic. That their originals sit comfortably beside an interesting interpretation of Joni Mitchell’s ‘All I Want’ – the set’s sole cover – is testimony to the quality and quirky nature of their words and melodies. Their lyrics are delivered with verve and the kind of close harmonies you’d expect of sisters, to consummate backing from the likes of guitarists Andy and Peter Baylor and multi instrumentalist Amy Bennett (piano, viola and violin).

We're just back from the National - a little bleary eyed as our plane home was delayed for 5 hours!! The Tribute to Joni Mitchell Album Launch was wonderful with the most receptive audience anyone could wish for. The album produced by Marina Hurley and Andrew Patisson is called 'Festival folk sing Joni Mitchell' and features some stunning tracks from wonderful singers including Kavisha Mazzella, Chris While, Julie Matthews, Akasa, the Spooky Men's Choir, all of whom have donated a track in support of the Troubadour Foundation. You can find out more about the project at: www. A big thank you to the wonderful Kristina Olsen who played guitar for us at the concert.
The concert with Eddi Reader at the Brunswick Music Festival was amazing. Eddi was as delightful and charming as always and even had 'the lassies' up to do some impromptu harmonies for her.

VIC ROCKS ARTS GRANT & VITAMIN DISTRIBUTION
We were thrilled to receive a Vic Rocks grant in the last round to record and promote our second album 'Two in a Book'.We have almost completed recording at Fatsounds with Barry Stockley.
We have signed a distribution deal with Vitamin Records so are looking forward to really getting the new album out there! It's being released in early March with the launch at the Port Fairy Folk Festival

SONGWRITING SUCCESS! Alicia is a finalist in the Australian Songwriting Awards with her gorgeous song 'The Book'.
She is also a finalist in the Darebin Music Feast Songwriting Competition with her bittersweet song 'The Sharehouse' - she sings in the first semi final on Sept 9th. Good luck Alicia!

Burrinja Ranges Folk Club - what a brilliant place to play! Beautiful space, excellent sound, very responsive, appreciative audience and a full house - a pleasure to play at such a vibrant club.

The Folk For Fire Relief gig was AMAZING!!
The show sold out in pre sales the day before after we were interviewed and played 'live to air' on The Derek Guille Show.
There was a lovely vibe in the room and everyone played beautifully. As well as the door takings, NSC donated all bar and food takings to the Red Cross so combined with the raffle ( prize was a CD of each of the bands) and donation tins, we raised close to 19 grand!! The show exceeded all our expectations. Such a memorable night and thanks to everyone who came.

We recently played at the Melbourne Folk Club.
We loved the receptive audience, the space and the excellent sound.

Here's a review of our performance from Mel Robertson from the club.

Last Saturday was an outstanding success for the club with a full house for the Alanna and Alicia Egan Band and Tom Bolton.

Review

Alanna and Alicia Egan Band

I had only listened to their “myspace” after being told about the band by a friend, and I could see they were good but had never heard them live. (That shows you I don’t get out much) On the strength of this I booked them.
Was I in for a pleasant surprise! The songs were well crafted by Alanna and Alicia and when you hear them live, the quality shines through.
Their performance was wonderful and the ease with which they sang their songs told me there was a special bond between the girls.
Amy Bennett was great with the three-part harmonies and also fiddle and piano, and Liam O’Connell played very nice guitar.

They were cheeky, adventurous, funny and commanding.
They are a joy and a must see for anyone who thinks, listens, laughs and sings.
